Frequently Asked Questions
Santomo Resources Indonesia is the Indonesia-based entity of the globally recognized Santomo Group, established in 2016. It acts as a business development and investment company primarily focused on renewable energy and decarbonization projects in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia.
The Santomo Group’s core business in Indonesia revolves around the development and implementation of decarbonization projects and renewable energy solutions. This dual focus is executed through two key areas:
- Sustainable Bioenergy Supply: Sourcing, processing, and trading biomass products like Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) and Wood Pellets.
- Green Mobility Infrastructure: Developing and operating electric vehicle infrastructure, primarily through Battery as a Service (BaaS) solutions.
The group’s foundational entity, PT Santomo Resources Indonesia, was established in 2016 for trading and investment in carbon-neutral projects, primarily focusing its efforts within the country.
The Group’s vision is to achieve the early realization of a carbon-neutral society through the development and diffusion of decarbonization projects. Its guiding slogan is “Beyond & Impact,” reflecting its goal to create new value that exceeds challenges and brings positive change to society.
The group focuses on sustainable solid and liquid bioenergy feedstocks. The main products include:
- Palm Kernel Shell (PKS): A high-calorific value byproduct from the palm oil industry.
- Wood Pellets: Renewable fuel produced from wood residue like sawdust.
- Bio-liquid Fuels: Developing sustainable alternatives, including feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). (This business is primarily handled by PT Santomo Biomass Indonesia.)
The group maintains a strong commitment to sustainable and legal sourcing, backed by essential international and national certifications, including:
- GGL (Green Gold Label)
- ISCC EU & ISCC PLUS (for sustainable supply chains and traceability)
- SVLK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu) (ensuring legal compliance for wood products).
Yes. The group owns and operates a Wood Pellet Plant in Gresik, East Java. This facility converts sawmill residue into high-quality wood pellets, contributing to regional economic growth and effective waste utilization.
The group is actively involved in green mobility and electrification, focusing on the distribution of electric motorcycles and the creation of supporting infrastructure. This effort aims to reduce urban air pollution and decrease dependence on fossil fuels in the transportation sector. (This activity is managed by PT Santomo Green Power Management.)
BaaS is a business model where the Santomo Group provides and manages electric motorcycle batteries and supporting infrastructure (Battery Swap Stations or BSS) as a service, rather than selling the batteries outright. This approach promotes a circular economy and lowers the barrier to entry for users, such as online ride-hailing drivers.
The green mobility projects, including the installation and maintenance of Battery Swap Stations, are primarily focused in major Indonesian cities, such as Makassar, Sulawesi, and Surabaya, East Java, in partnership with local logistics and ride-hailing platforms (e.g., Gojek).
